Description

truck is simply defined as a motor vehicle designed to carry freight or heavy articles.Nothing fancy or imaginative about it except that when we speak of trucks in India, the following come to mind instantly: Kitschy pop art all over the truck's body, wacky sayings at the back of the truck, dieties and idols smothered with incense -flavoured smoke in the driving box. Blaring music from a rundown radio, and most prominently the images of noisy, polluting, four-wheeled gigantic vehicles carrying all possible goods ranging from humble fruits and vegetables to bricks, cement and iron rods, and sometimes even vehicles, quite a mundane vehicle which requires no further ponderance of debate, except that there is more to trucks and truck drivers than meets the eye. The very fact that they are responsible for virtually carrying the burden of our economy "on their back" and that truckers actually have homes and families who wait patiently for their return from the numerous trips, is enough to dwell on what ails and plagues their lives and what can be done to improve their conditions.

This book is an attempt by SAFEXPRESS-India's largest supply chain and logistics company, to examine facts and stories at close quarters pertaining to trucking in India and the idea is to access as many people who 'Matter', be it industrialists, bureaucrats or policy makers, who hold the key for devising a fresh set of rules and norms in order to enable these unsung truckers to get their due!
